Cross My Heart Boot Cuffs

Valentine Free Crochet Pattern

Difficulty:Intermediate

Materials Needed: I-5.5 mm hook

Madelinetosh DK Twist yarn in Tart(MC) Madelinetosh DK Twist in Molly Ringwald (CC) scissors

Stitches Used: ch= chain

sc = single crochet

hdc = half double crochet

dc = double crochet

Additional Terms

F-hdc= foundation half double crochet: Ch 2, yo, insert hook in first Ch, yo, pull up a loop, yo pull through one loop on hook, yo, pull through all loops. Next F-hdc: Yo, insert in bottom of previous stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through one loop on hook, yo, pull through all remaining loops. Continue working this way until you reach desired number of stitches.

Fp-dc= front post double crochet: Yo, insert hook around post by entering through the front of the previous rows stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through last 2 loops. Bp-dc= back post double crochet: Yo, insert hook around post by entering through the back of the previous rows stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through last 2 loops.

Crab stitch: working left to right, make a sc in desired number of stitches.

Gauge: 6.5:hdc= 2 inches 6 hdc rows= 2 inches Measurements: Child: 7-8 inches Teen- small adult: 9-11 inches Medium: 12-14 inches Large: 15-17 inches

Additional Notes: Boot Cuffs are worked in joined rounds. The heart pattern is cross stitched on with a needle.

These are sized from child to Large adult, but if you need to adjust the size you can adjust the starting row by keeping a multiple of 7, in order to keep the heart pattern even.

Pattern: Child (Make 2)

Rnd. 1: F-hdc 21 stitches. Make sure you do not twist the stitches, join with a slst to the first fhdc. Rnd. 2-6: Ch. 2( counts as a hdc). Hdc in next stitch and each stitch around. Slst in the top of the ch-2. Rnd 7-9: Ch3. Fp-dc in next stitch. Bp-dc in next stitch. Repeat * around. Slst to ch-3. Rnd 10: With CC, crab stitch around. Fasten off.

Teen-Small (Make 2)

Rnd. 1: F-hdc 28 stitches. Make sure you do not twist the stitches, join with a slst to the first fhdc. Rnd. 2-8: Ch. 2( counts as a hdc). Hdc in next stitch and each stitch around. Slst in the top of the ch-2. Rnd 9-11: Ch3. Fp-dc in next stitch. Bp-dc in next stitch. Repeat * around. Slst to ch-3. Rnd 12: With CC, crab stitch around. Fasten off.

Medium

(Make 2)

Rnd. 1: F-hdc 35 stitches. Make sure you do not twist the stitches, join with a slst to the first fhdc. Rnd. 2-9: Ch. 2( counts as a hdc). Hdc in next stitch and each stitch around. Slst in the top of the ch-2. Rnd 10-12: Ch3. Fp-dc in next stitch. Bp-dc in next stitch. Repeat * around. Slst to ch-3. Rnd 13: With CC, crab stitch around. Fasten off.

Large: (Make 2)

Rnd. 1: F-hdc 49 stitches. Make sure you do not twist the stitches, join with a slst to the first fhdc. Rnd. 2-11: Ch. 2( counts as a hdc). Hdc in next stitch and each stitch around. Slst in the top of the ch-2.

Rnd 12-14: Ch3. Fp-dc in next stitch. Bp-dc in next stitch. Repeat * around. Slst to ch-3.

Rnd 15: With CC, crab stitch around. Fasten off.

All Sizes

Using contrasting yarn and tapestry needle, cross stitch heart around the boot cuff, using the chart and photos below. The cross stitches will only be on the hdc rows.

Fasten off and weave in all ends to finish.
